“Decoding the world, one pattern at a time”
Kopal Tare learned to see patterns at the spelling bee, decoding intimidating words into Greek roots and Latin prefixes. Years later, the same instinct lights up when she's hunting for a cellular anomaly in a computational-biology dataset at 2 a.m. A senior who just completed Stanford's ultra-selective SIMR program, Kopal has already built a machine-learning model to detect pneumonia in low-bandwidth rural hospitals, conducted biorobotics research for spinal-cord-injury patients, and published on the overlap between biological and artificial neural networks. But she's just as proud of the access she creates: Bee Stars, her free etymology-and-linguistics tutoring program, has reached more than 150 students, and her SWENext chapter grew from a handful of members to over a hundred. Her north star is equity that's earned through hustle — research depth on one hand, immediate real-world action on the other.
